Following on from the Botox article (yesterday), further research article (A Comparative Randomised Study from Spain and Portugal). This article demonstrates on the effectiveness and comparison of different injection substances and its efficacy in reducing pain and improving range of motion.
In addition to the prescription and regular readjustment visits (1 week, 2 week, 1 month and every monthly thereafter) for the bite splint, they had 4 groups of 20 subjects each. 1 Bite Splint group 2 Bite Splint + bethamethasone injection 3 Bite Splint + sodium hyaluronate injection 4 Bite Splint + plasma-rich platelet (PRP) injection Result is that all groups improved over the 6 months period of research. Least improved is the Bite Splint only group. Most improved in the first week were group 2 and group 3. Most improved in the 6 months was group 4. Considering these patients all had at least 6 month of symptoms prior to the treatment, it may be most prudent to go for group 4 treatment. If that is what you as a patient want (i.e. injection is something you would want to avoid if all possible knowing other effective treatment program is available such as PHYSIOTHERAPY for your JAW JOINT!!!
