JAW Clenching / Stiffness and Skipping Meals
Have you been skipping meals during the day?
Have you been feeling you have been clenching at night in your sleep?
Well, skipping meals and jaw clenching may be linked…..
When you skip a meal but regularly, like lunch, your stomach is ready with more acid to digest food but food never comes because you skip a meal, then stomach is full of acid and nothing to digest.
Acid is a strong chemical and one of the nerve that innervates your stomach is called Vagus nerve can become sensitive to high level of acidity.
If you skip meal often, then it can become even more sensitive..
When vagus nerve becomes highly sensitised, it will relay this high sensitivity in the brain and it can influence the close neighbouring nerves such as Trigeminal nerve.
Trigeminal nerve, it functions to help with your jaw / ear / gum and teeth, sinus areas.
This is only a suggested mechanism but the pattern I see often enough.
So if you have jaw clenching and stiffness / tightness and skipping meals and have high acid and reflux or heart burn or stomach aches.
It would be great to get checked out by your doctor to ensure what it is, and also to improve your lifestyle so that you do not skip meals regularly.
Happy Rehab, Cheers!
