Jaw Popping and How to Fix It
Jaw popping occurs with the intra-articular disc (aka. disc) moving not together with the jaw bone called condyle.
Reasons for the jaw popping are diverse but some of the major reasons are;
1 stiff jaw joint – capsule/ligaments/ muscle tension
2 trauma in the past causing disc to be irritated or damaged such as split or indented
3 shallow articular eminence shape of the temporal bone
4 poor posture causing chin poke posture and makes it easier for the Disc to move out of synchrony with the jaw condyle
The solution is to get the tongue on the roof of the mouth.
The second is to have a better upright posture
These will help improve the environment of the jaw joint to keep the disc in the joint and the Disc to stay with the condyle when opening the mouth or closing the mouth.
Happy Rehab!
