Sleep Clenching & Grinding Part 2 – What You MUST Check Next About Your Jaw & Breathing
Jaw pain or tension from nighttime clenching and grinding?
Even if you don’t snore or have diagnosed sleep apnea, there’s something you should seriously check—your sinus and nasal airflow.
In last week’s video, we discussed how disrupted breathing during sleep can activate a powerful chain reaction in the body:
-
Increased heart rate
-
Increased breathing effort
-
Increased brain and muscle activity
→ This triggers the Trigeminal Cardiac Reflex (TCR)
→ Which activates jaw muscles and leads to sleep bruxism (clenching & grinding)
This week, we go further:
If you’ve had sinus congestion, blocked nose, or allergies, this could silently worsen your jaw condition during sleep.
✅ Get your nasal and sinus passages checked for narrowing or inflammation.
✅ Consider a sleep study, even if symptoms seem minor.
Surprisingly, these subtle breathing issues could be the hidden cause behind your chronic jaw tension or TMJ disorders.
