75% of people with Fibromyalgia develop TMD and 15% of people with TMD develop Fibromyalgia.
The two conditions obviously have a strong link.
Main symptoms reported are stiffness to open, pain to open and pain to chew/bite and clicking in the jaw joint.
Fibromyalgia will need to be medically managed by often rheumatologist but symptoms related to the jaw joint will benefit from Physiotherapy specific to alleviating symptoms such as joint mobilisation, soft tissue management and clinical exercises as well as home management strategies.
