🏃♀️It’s Marathon Season! (Part 1)
🏃♀️It’s Marathon Season! (Part 1)
Hello from Sydney!
The winter chill has definitely arrived here, and just like in Japan, marathon season is in full swing.
This year, two major events are lined up back-to-back:
-
City2Surf: August 10
-
Sydney Marathon: August 31
If you’re one of the many who’ve set a goal to participate, great job!
But here’s an important reminder:
Avoid suddenly increasing your running distance or intensity (speed, hills, etc.).
Overtraining can lead to injury.
Please follow a progressive and structured training plan to arrive at the starting line feeling strong and injury-free.
But still—injuries happen!
Even with care, injuries are common in long-distance runners. Here are some of the most frequent:
-
Shin Splints (Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome)
→ Dull pain in the front or inner part of the lower leg -
Runner’s Knee (Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome)
→ Pain around or under the kneecap -
Jumper’s Knee (Patellar Tendinopathy)
→ Pain just below the kneecap at the tendon -
IT Band Syndrome (Iliotibial Band Friction Syndrome)
→ Sharp pain on the outside of the knee (not inside the joint) -
Achilles Tendinopathy
→ Pain and/or swelling in the Achilles tendon, varying by person -
Plantar Fasciitis
→ Pain in the arch or heel of the foot
Starting tomorrow, we’ll dive deeper into each of these injuries over a 6-part series.
Stay tuned!
